The CGC holder will significantly improve the protection of your collectibles.
CGC has invested extensive time and resources to develop the hobby’s best holders for collectibles. The result is display-worthy holders that provide superior long-term protection. Crystal-clear optics showcase a collectible's color and detail, the sturdy case resists impacts, and ultrasonic welding safely holds the collectible in place.
No. The CGC holder is designed for long-term preservation and provides superior protection for your collectibles. A properly handled and stored CGC-certified collectibles can last for generations.
The CGC holder is made from high-quality materials and is entirely archival-safe. The inner well that holds comic books, for example, is comprised of PETG, a plastic that is well known to be archival-safe and extremely clear. To further protect collectibles from the natural off-gassing that releases acidic molecules over time, CGC has a secure sonic seal that is NOT airtight so that acidic molecules are not trapped inside the holder.
To protect and maintain the value of your collectibles, we recommend keeping them in their holders. Our holders can be carefully opened, but once a CGC-graded collectible is removed, its certified grade is void. The collectible must be re-certified and encapsulated, with no guarantee of the same grade. For re-certification, include the original CGC label to keep the CGC Population Reports accurate. If you want to get a signature at a show, bring the intact comic to the CGC booth for removal and re-submission with a yellow CGC Signature Series label.
CGC has a number of technologically advanced security measures built into its holders to make them tamper-evident. Once a comic is certified, any future attempt to open or tamper with the holder will be visibly evident. To verify certification, use the CGC Certification Verification tool.
Proper storage is essential to preserving your collectibles, and collectors should take steps to minimize exposure to heat, humidity, vibration, and light. CGC recommends that CGC-certified collectibles be stored in a dark, dry, cool, temperature-controlled location. CGC's holders have withstood the test of time and have been shown to provide outstanding long-term protection and preservation. No other collectibles grading services can make that claim.
CGC labels feature a comprehensive description of the collectible along with its CGC grade and unique CGC certification number. To prevent against counterfeiting, CGC labels include microprinting, UV ink, holographic foil, and more. On the back of the CGC labels, a QR code enables you to quickly look up a collectible and its images on the CGC website.
CGC uses different colored labels to indicate whether a collectible has any special considerations. The blue Universal label is applied to collectibles that are simply the grade as marked, with no qualifiers. Yellow is used to show that a collectible is signed and certified by either CGC Signature Series or JSA. Other colors include green (Qualified grade) and purple (Restored grade).
