In 2024, CGC authenticated a previously unknown standard-sized example of the famed Doug Ferguson GX card, which went on to sell for over $60,000 at auction. Now, CGC is thrilled to announce that four of the five known super-oversize examples that were awarded to Mr. Ferguson for his Retirement have been submitted to CGC for authentication.

Doug Ferguson served as Senior Vice President of Product Development at TPCi for more than 16 years. “When Doug left The Pokémon Company International in 2019, he was gifted five of these oversized cards,” Travis Landry of LandryPop Auctions told CGC. “At 18 by 25 inches, they’re obviously a far cry from the size of a traditional Pokémon card. In fact, these poster-sized cards are over 50x larger than a standard card!”

The cards, which were submitted by LandryPop Auctions on behalf of Mr. Ferguson, all feature art by Mike Cressy on the front, along with a blank back containing a press approval sticker. One example (not the one currently being offered for sale) even features signatures of his co-workers, although these signatures were not evaluated by CGC or JSA.

Only four of the five cards awarded were submitted to CGC. The fifth, a framed display copy, will remain in Mr. Ferguson's personal collection. The four cards that were submitted have been holdered in custom holders utilizing the same holders used for CGC-graded concert posters.

"I was deeply honored by this gift, and I'm grateful for the recognition of my many contributions to Pokémon," said Mr. Ferguson. "What I think about most are all the wonderful people I worked with to help grow Pokémon into the success it enjoys to this day."

“Doug Ferguson's collection uncovers many incredible pieces of Pokémon history," said Landry, "but these are on another level. For collectors, this auction represents a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Pokémon history that was never released."

One of these four unique pieces of Pokémon history is currently being offered by LandryPop in their ongoing Pokémon Icons Featuring the Collection of Doug Ferguson auction, which is set to end on November 3, 2026. The supersized card (lot 168, CGC cert number 6201299-003) has an estimate of $30,000-$50,000, and is among dozens of other CGC-certified Pokémon collectibles being offered in the sale. Mr. Ferguson had this to say about his cards: "I'm thrilled that these four cards are now protected and preserved by CGC."
