Name of comic: Rob Zombie’s Spookshow International #1
Comic publisher: CrossGen Comics/MV Creations
Date: November 2003
Variants: There was a 2003 second print with cover by Kieron Dwyer, and a 2004 Wizard World variant with cover by Tony Moore.
What makes it special? Not only does this deep-cut cult favorite feature a story from the twisted mind of Rob Zombie, it also offers an early cover by J. Scott Campbell evoking nightmares of classic EC Comics horror comics. The anthology series features stories based on the characters from Zombie’s film, House of 1000 Corpses, including the origin of Dr. Satan.
Why is it interesting now? Halloween is creeping up, and it’s the perfect time to revisit this spooky series that mixed together a witches' brew of one of rock music’s most (re)animated singers with a fan-favorite comic artist.
Did you know? Known worldwide for his music, Rob Zombie is no stranger to comics. In addition to this series, which ran for nine issues, Zombie has also written comics such as The Nail #1-4 (Dark Horse), Treehouse of Horror #10 (Bongo), Bigfoot #2-4 (IDW), the Devil’s Rejects #1 (IDW), Whatever Happened to Baron Von Shock #1-4 (IDW), and Anthrax: Among the Living (Z2).
