Two classic video games that have been certified by CGC are turning heads in an ongoing Heritage Auctions sale. The sealed games for the NES and SNES are just a few of the dozens of CGC-certified games and other collectibles being offered in Heritage's Video Games Signature Auction, which is set to end on November 20-21, 2026.
Leading the way is a sealed The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1987) graded CGC 8.0 A (lot 28018), for which bidding has already exceeded $50,000 more than two weeks before the sale. This is the earliest retail release of The Legend of Zelda in North America, evidenced by the "TM" symbol next to the "Nintendo Entertainment System" text on the front of the box. According to public census data, sealed examples of these early print runs are extremely rare, and the remaining number of sealed examples on the secondary market are in the single digits.
Additionally, a sealed Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (1995) graded CGC 9.8 A++ (lot 28062) is making waves in the auction. Early SNES games were manufactured in Mexico, where Super Nintendo packaging was notoriously fragile and susceptible to damage. Yet, this example of Chrono Trigger is in very impressive condition, despite its origin and age. Chrono Trigger is considered one of the greatest JRPGs of all time and is the centerpiece of many collections.
Other CGC-certified collectibles in the auction include:
a CIB The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1987) graded CGC 9.6 with CIB grades of 9.4 for Box, 9.8 for Cartridge, and 9.8 for Manual (lot 28017)
a sealed Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1989) graded CGC 9.8 A++ (lot 28029)
a sealed The Legend of Zelda: The Hyrule Fantasy for the Famicom Disk System (1986) graded CGC 9.4 A+ (lot 28016)
a sealed Dragon Warrior II for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1990) graded CGC 9.0 A+ (lot 28010)
a pair of Nintendo Power magazines, including a Nintendo Power #1 (1988) graded CGC 9.2 and a Nintendo Power #285 graded CGC 9.2 (lot 28039)
