In 2020, CGC added cards to our lineup of world-class pop culture collectible grading services. Since then, CGC has become the fastest-growing card grading service in the world — with more than 10 million cards certified in just five years — and we've expanded operations to several countries across the globe. At the same time, we've also refined our state-of-the-art holder for cards, which many call the best in the hobby due to its clarity, sleekness and stackability. The three holders shown below are all genuine CGC holders for cards, which collectors will see on our website and in the wild.
The newest version of the CGC holder for cards is making its debut in the market as of September 2025. Collectors will notice that the triangular notches used in our previous iteration are no longer present, as we've continued to optimize our ultrasonic sealing mechanism. The new holders provide the same level of protection and display, but with an even sleeker seal.
This version of the CGC holder was introduced when CGC combined its trading card game and sports card grading services in 2023. With updated security features and an improved display, it was an immediate hit with collectors. No other holder in the hobby was as crystal clear or felt as good in hand, and (don't worry) with our newest holder, we're keeping it that way.
The OG CGC holder for cards came out in 2020 with the launch of CGC's grading services for Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering cards. (Yep, now we grade everything, but back then it was only two.) Our holder's evolution began with the materials used for the CGC comic book holder in order to provide the same time-tested protection for cards.
